I gotta be real with you all, 2017 has been a bit of a topsy turvy year for me. There have been some moments of pure love and moments of deep sadness. It’s been tough for communities across the country and the globe. It has been a year that challenges you to find peace and a little sparkle.
It has been my experience that whenever I am struggling in life, lifting someone up or performing acts of kindness always brightens my mood, it’s my go to on tough days. I know that helping others sure would make a wonderful ending to an otherwise tough holiday season. And not just for me or maybe you, but young children who are sick and have to be away from everything that is familiar, safe and is considered home.
It’s that time of year where we reach out to all of you to consider donating to Sutton’s 8th Annual Toy Drive for Children’s Hospital in Spokane. I can’t believe it’s our 8th year, can you? For eight years, we have all dipped in our pockets and given to strangers to help bring them a little magic during the Christmas holiday. For eight years, it has been so worth it and this year is no different!
In the past couple months, I know of four different families whose children were sent to Sacred Heart Children’s Hospital for emergencies or planned hospital stays. Every time I hear from a family who is experiencing the healing prayers, worry and chaos, my heart is filled with concern. Somewhere inside of that worry, I know that they will be taken care of and get the best possible treatment from the doctors and nurses. Yet it makes me realize that there are other roles to play than doctor or nurse when taking care of families – this is why our toy drive is so important.
As we have done in the past, we will have drop off locations or you can donate online so we can shop, shop, shop! If you know of a business that would like to be a drop off site, please send me a message! We rely solely on the kindness and commitment of our community to do this toy drive and are open to new ideas.
Once again, we are fortunate to be working with Cascade Elementary School to help us do our shopping. Every penny you donate will be used to go on a shopping trip with some exceptional 4th and 5th graders who have shown strength and compassion by following the school’s FISH Philosophy, which is right line with what our family believes and the purpose of our toy drive.
When you shop or donate money, you know exactly where it’s going. You know that 100% of everything goes to those kids and their families. When your child picks out a toy to donate, they are given an opportunity to practice kindness and compassion, which I believe is incredibly essential as they go through this world. When you go online and donate money, we recognize that this is money you could be spending on your own family and loved ones, so we make every penny count.
So let’s get to the good stuff!
